Walsenburg World – J– Engineer Wade Dies of Injuries In Train Wreck – After three months of intense suffering from injuries received in a railroad wreck, Loren E. Walsenburg World – J– We are sorry to learn that engineer Wade, who was hurt in the Trinidad passenger wreck some weeks ago has been compelled to have a limb amputated and is not getting along as well as was hoped. Wade was employed by the D & RG for 20 years and this is his first serious accident. Several of the passengers were shaken up but none injured. An engine was dispatched to the scene of the wrecked from El Moro, and the injured man and the passengers were brought to Trinidad. The train was late in leaving Trinidad and was running slowly when the accident occurred. He remained conscious and offered suggestions to his rescuers in the work of releasing him. He was pinned under the wreckage, and although passengers joined with the train crew in an effort to extricate the injured man he was not released for nearly an hour. Firemen Dougherty escaped injury by jumping, but Wade waited to close the throttle and set the air. He is in the hospital with a broken leg and numerous other injuries. Wade, the oldest engineer on the Denver & Rio Grande, was caught under his overturned engine, sustaining injuries that may cause death. Wade – Walsenburg World – Ap– Engine Thrown off Track – The engine and tender of the Trinidad-Denver North-bound D & RG train turned over and every car left the rail at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon when the engine struck a cow at Chicosa, 15 miles north of Trinidad. Survived by her loving daughter, Toni (Kenneth) Whitt grandsons, Alexander (Katherine) and Andrew also numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank and her parents.
